A summer of real band experience

Summer Band Labs are a fun, focused way to experience the energy of playing in a band during the summer. Designed as practical group programs with clear musical goals, they give you the chance to rehearse together, strengthen your ensemble skills, build confidence, and work towards a live performance - in an exciting, supportive environment.

Ideal for beginners, developing players, and young musicians ready to try something new, the focus is on the essentials of band playing: listening, timing, groove, teamwork, musical communication, and stage confidence.

What you get

In 8 weeks

Real bandmates

We match you with other musicians at a similar level of experience, so the band gels from day one.

Weekly coached sessions

90 minutes every week with an MCMA tutor guiding rehearsals and preparation.

Repertoire you perform

Learn and shape real songs as a group, building towards a set you can play start to finish.

Practical band skills

Timing, groove, starts and endings, cues, and transitions - the things solo practice can't teach.

Confidence and community

Meet fellow musicians, build discipline and musical communication, and become part of the scene.

A final live showcase

End the program performing live in front of family and friends at a real music venue.

How it works

Simple and realistic

1

You apply and tell us about yourself

A short form helps us understand your instrument, level, and musical taste so we can place you well.

2

We build your band

Each band is around 5 students, matched by experience and balanced for instrumentation.

3

You rehearse weekly with a tutor

An MCMA tutor coaches your band each week, preparing your material and tightening your sound.

4

You perform live

The 8 weeks build towards a final showcase where your band performs for an audience.

Who it's for

You've never played in a band but really want to try it.

You already have band experience and want to take it to the next level.

You have a band but you want to get tighter and sound better.

You want motivation, accountability, and a clear goal to work towards.

You want to meet other musicians and play with people, not just on your own.
